Q: Where is Plainview Hospital?
A: Plainview Hospital is an acute care community hospital with 219 beds located on 888 Old Country Road in Plainview, New York.
Q: What makes our program unique from other programs?
A: Diverse patient population – uninsured patients at Northwell Family Health Center, to primarily geriatric patients at Plainview Hospital, to middle class families in Plainview and Huntington, NY.
Q: How much OB do residents do?
A: We work alongside OB/GYN residents in Labor and Delivery at Huntington Hospital. We have the opportunity to assist with deliveries and see consults in the ER.
Q: What fellowships do you offer?
A: Plainview Hospital has a Sports Medicine Fellowship.
Q: What tracks does the program offer?
A: We offer a wide range of special interest tracks such as the global health and community outreach tracks. (See our DOFM Tracks page here!).
Q: Will I have opportunities to do scholarly research?
A: There are always research projects ongoing at Plainview Hospital. Every resident is expected to engage in scholarly activities by the end of their residency whether it be a QI project or contributing to a journal article.
Q: Where do FM residents train in pediatrics?
A: Our pediatrics training is at Cohen Children’s Medical Center and at the Northwell Family Health Center. At CCMC, our FM residents work closely with pediatric hospitalists and help manage post operative patients on the floors. Additionally, our FM residents manage pediatric patients in the ER. CCMC is a level 1 trauma center with a wide range of pathologies and experience. At NFHC, residents learn how to provide outpatient primary care to pediatric patients. They work closely with an uninsured, underserved population.
Q: How many residents are in your program?
A: Each PGY class has 10 residents, including our Transitional Year resident class.

Q: Are there opportunities for teaching medical students?
A: Yes! We have 3rd and 4th year medical students rotating through Plainview Hospital and our Northwell clinic throughout the academic year.
Q: How does the call system work?
A: Our program operates with respect to ACGME guidelines, with no more than 80 hours worked per week. 6 weeks of night float are incorporated in the schedule per year. There is a schedule for back-up call in which residents may be called in to cover if their peers are not available to work their shifts.
Q: How much vacation do residents have?
A: We have 20 days of PTO.
Q: Are there opportunities for mentorship?
A: Yes, we have a mentorship program in place where faculty members are paired with a member from each PGY class.
